5 Months Old

Madeline is 5 months old now and such a sweet girl.  She is smart, observant and silly.  She easily smiles for me and Nate, but it is tough to make her giggle.  If something makes her laugh once, it doesn't work a second time.  She really makes you work for it!  But she knows how to get us to smile with her silly sounds. 

When she looks around, you can easily see that she is trying to figure things out.  Definitely the daughter of two engineers!  A few days ago, I watched her spend a few minutes studying a tag before finally putting it in her mouth.  She has also figured out which side of the pacifier goes in her mouth, so she'll pick it up and turn it around.   

She will sit in her high chair for short intervals and watch me in the kitchen.   And we have started introducing her to solid foods.  So far she is not a fan of the rice cereal.  She sticks out her tongue and gives us a look like it was the worst taste ever!  She did the same thing with peas.  She finally started to do better with oatmeal cereal.  We're taking it just a little at a time. 

 She also moves all over the place, but hasn't started to crawl yet.  When she's on her belly, she has learned to straighten her arms and slide backwards or turn around.  And she is getting closer to sitting.  She can kind of support herself like a tripod!

I am having so much fun staying home with Madeline.  She is such a joy and a darling girl.  Our only struggle right now is getting her to stay asleep at the beginning of the night.  I think she is waking up from teething, so hopefully that goes away soon.  After she's down, she'll wake up only once for a feeding and go right back to sleep until 7am!  I'm so glad she lets me sleep that late!

We also recently submitted Maddie's application for a passport.  I'm not sure where she's going to be traveling to yet, but her mug shot was so cute!
